JOHOR BAHRU: A secondary school student got more than he bargained for due to his curiosity over the moniker of a man called “Abang Vadai”. He ended up being slapped and threatened.
The incident was captured in a 53-second video which has gone viral. It is understood that the victim had asked if “Abang Vadai” got his moniker from making the traditional Indian snack.
This led to him being slapped repeatedly by three older teenagers. One of the teenagers threatened to harm him if he spoke about “Abang Vadai” again.
When contacted, Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain confirmed the incident, saying a police report had been lodged last Thursday.
“The complainant informed us he was slapped by three people unknown to him. An investigation paper has been opened under Section 323/506 of the Penal Code,” he told FMT.
Section 323 relates to voluntarily causing hurt while Section 506 relates to criminal intimidation.
Padzli has since confirmed that five suspects aged between 15 and 17 have been detained over the incident.
No other details were given in the case.
