JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 19 -- The Johor police found 21.859 kilogrammes (kg) of syabu and 14,000 ecstacy pills worth about RM1.29 million through two follow up operations in Muar, 169 km from here, on Friday and Saturday (October 16 and 17).
Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the operations were held following interrogations of six suspects, aged 20 to 32 years, who were detained earlier in the same district on Tuesday and Wednesday (October 13 and 14).
‘’The revelations by the suspects took police to two drug storage locations, namely, at the Parit Besar Laut Mangrove Forest in Muar and coconut plantations around Muar.
‘’Police found 20.7 kg of syabu and 14,000 ecstacy pills worth RM1.25 million in a bag on a beach area during a raid at about 10 am on October 16, believed to have been left by the suspects before before being detained.
‘’In the second raid in a coconut plantation on Oct 17 at 12.10 pm, police found another 1.06 kg of syabu worth RM42,560. In both follow-up raids, no arrest was made,’’ he told reporters here, today.
Ayob Khan said the police managed to seize 37.53 kg syabu and 23,905 ecstasy pills worth RM2.2 million in the entire operation involving the syndicate since Oct 13.
He said police had also seized two fibreglass boats with engines worth RM35,000; a Perodua Viva car worth RM10,000 and a Yamaha Solaris motorcycle worth RM5,000.
‘’All the suspects were being remanded for further investigation until October 20 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Dugs Act 1952,’’ he said.
On October 16, the Johor police revealed the detentions of six suspects including a woman and her nephew in three raids as they were believed to be involved in a syndicate to smuggle drugs to Bengkalis, Sumatera, Indonesia.
During the raids, police also seized 15.67 kg syabu and 9,905 ecstasy pills worth about RM1 million.
