KUANTAN, Aug 24 -- Chini state assemblyman Mohd Sharim Md Zain took his oath of office at the Second Meeting of the Third Term of the 14th Pahang State Legislative Assembly at Wisma Sri Pahang here, today.

Mohd Sharim, 41, a second generation Chini Felda settler, read and signed the oath of office before State Assembly speaker Datuk Seri Ishak Muhammad.

In the Chini state by-election on July 4, Mohd Sharim of the Barisan Nasional (BN) won with a majority of 12,650 votes, to defeat two Independent candidates Tengku Datuk Zainul Hisham Tengku Hussin who garnered 1,222 votes and Mohd Shukri Mohd Ramli who only managed 137 votes.

The by-election was called following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Harun, on May 6 at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, due to a heart attack.

Ishak in congratulating Mohd Sharim on the by-election victory reminded him to fulfil the trust placed in him by the people, with full integrity.

"It is hoped that you will serve well with a high level of integrity for the sake of the people of Chini and Pahang," he said.

Meanwhile, in representing all Pahang state assemblymen, Ishak conveyed their congratulations and well wishes to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who is also the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on his 61st birthday celebration on July 30.
