KUALA LUMPUR: The National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara) will be upgraded to Universiti P. Ramlee as part of Barisan Nasional’s initiative to spur the country’s cultural and creative industry.
According to the BN manifesto, a nation’s achievements cannot be measured only from an economic perspective but also from the aspects of knowledge development, appreciation of the arts and culture, and its education.
Following Aswara’s re-branding, Universiti P. Ramlee will adopt an existing university model as its guide and adopt the terms in the University and University Colleges Act as a guide for it becoming a public university.
The proposal to upgrade Aswara to full university-level, under the Higher Education Ministry, was first voiced in 2015.
Its main campus, in Taman Ilmu, Tembila, Besut , Kuala Terengganu, was officiated on March 15 by Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman. © New Straits Times Press
