KUALA SELANGOR: The nomination papers of the PKR candidate for the Bukit Melawati state seat, Sivamalar Ganapathy, were rejected this morning.

The Election Commission's Kuala Selangor returning officer Rahilah Rahmat explained when it comes to a state seat, the candidate’s address and the area he or she is contesting in must be within the same state.

“In Sivamalar’s case, she’s contesting for Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor but the address in her IC reads Raub, Pahang,” said Rahilah.

Sivamalar was replaced by PKR candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli.

“The appointment letter for Juwairiya was faxed over and the deposit was made in time,” Rahilah added.

Juwairiya will compete against incumbent Jakiran Jacomah (BN) and Muhammad Rashid Muhammad Kassim (PAS).

The candidates for the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat and three state seats - Bukit Melawati, Ijok and Jeram - were announced by Rahilah at the Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium around 10.55am.

For the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat, it will be a three-cornered fight between Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim (BN), Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Amanah) and Mohd Fakaruddin Ismail (PAS).

Ijok will also see a three-way battle between incumbent Dr Idris Ahmad (PKR), Parthiban Karuppiah (BN) and Kumaran Tamil (PRM).

In Jeram, BN is putting its hopes on newcomer Zahar Azlan Ariffin after dropping incumbent Datuk Amiruddin Setro, who has served for three terms. Zahar will go against Mohd Noor Mohd Shahar (PAS) and Mohd Shaid Rosli (Pribumi).
