Sabah EC rubbishes claims several seats won uncontested
KOTA KINABALU: The State Election Commission office affirmed no seats were won uncontested in Sabah today, denying rumours about candidates winning several constituencies being circulated on social media.
When contacted the State EC office confirmed no candidates withdrew after nomination was closed.
Several versions of the fake news are being circulated including one that claimed Parti Warisan Sabah won four seats uncontested in the state.
One of the messages read; “Update tidak rasmi. Parti Warisan Sabah menang 4 kerusi tanpa tanding. Di Sinallang, Likas, Manis Myka dan Keningau”. (Unofficial update. Parti Warisan Sabah won 4 seats uncontested. In Sinallang, Likas, Manis Myka and Keningau).
The word Sinallang apparently refers to Senallang while Manis Myka appears to be referring to the Warisan Bugaya candidate Manis Muka Mohd Dara.
Another version wrote; “Manis Myka menang Datuk Hj Razak Tun Sakaran tarik diri...” or “Manis Myka won, Datuk Hj Razak Tun Sakaran pulled out ...”
The Bugaya state seat will see a six-cornered contest between Mohammad Said Tiblan (Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah), Kulli Maralam (Parti Kebangsaan Sabah), Mahamod Sarahil (PAS), Manis Muka (Warisan), Razak (BN), and Abd Muksin Mohamad Hasan (Independant).
In Keningau, six hopefuls are vying for the parliamentary seat. They are Datuk Daniel Kinsik (Barisan Nasional), Jake Nointin (Warisan), Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (Star), Jius Awang (Parti Cinta Sabah), Maimin @ Jeffrus Rijan (Independent) and Datuk Justin Guka (Independent).
As for the Likas state seat, no Warisan candidate was fielded. The seat is being contested by Ching Shu Ying (BN), Tan Lee Fatt (DAP), and Richard Yong (Sabah Progressive Party).
