33 'Gang 36' members charged in Negri Sembilan

SEREMBAN: Thirty-three people, believed to be members of the notorious ‘Gang 36’, were charged today with being part of an organised crime group.
Heavily-armed policemen kept a watchful eyes as about 100 people, believed to be family members of the accused, began gathering at the court complex as early as 8am to follow the proceedings.
However, the large crowd and members of the Press were not allowed to enter the courtroom. They were told to wait outside until the proceeding ended.
All the accused were charged under Section 130v (1) of the Penal Code which carries a minimum jail term of five years and a maximum of 20 years.

According to the charge sheets, the accused were allegedly involved in an organised crime group ‘Geng 36’ in Negri Sembilan here between January 1 2015 and 29 March.
However, no confessions were recorded from all accused, aged between 25 to 54, when the charge was read to them by the court translator before judge Fathiyah Idris.
All of the accused are being detained at the Sungai Udang Prison in Melaka.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin, prosecuted while 10 of the accused were represented by four lawyers including B Jayaprakash Rao, Paul Krishnaraja and S Thevar.
The court fixed May 22 for the remention of the case.
