Radio presenter detained for possession of pistol, live bullets

The 47-year-old man was detained during a special operation by traffic police.
IPOH: A presenter at a local radio station has been arrested for possession of a pistol and live bullets.
Perak CID chief SAC Yahya Abd Rahman said the 47-year-old man was detained during a special operation at KM28, Kampung Bahagia, by traffic police from the Sungai Siput district police headquarters.
“During the special operation, a team of traffic policemen from Sungai Siput stopped a yellow Toyota Wish vehicle using a beacon light.
“A check on the driver revealed a Walther semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing seven live bullets,” he said when contacted here yesterday.
He said further inspections found a backpack in the front passenger seat containing another magazine with seven rounds of ammunition and 18 live bullets.
He said a total of 32 9mm bullets were seized.
According to Yahya, the police are investigating the man’s motive for acquiring the firearm under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for possession of a pistol without licence, and Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for carrying live ammunition.
