KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah has had to make sacrifices in its pact with Sabah Pakatan Harapan.

Party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said his top leaders are losing their seats in the general election as they are looking at the bigger picture for the state and the nation.

Mohd Shafie was apparently alluding to his party treasurer, Moyog assemblyman Terence Siambun, making way for Sabah PKR to contest his seat.

Warisan deputy president and Penampang MP Darell Leiking will also not be getting the state seat of Inanam, which has also been allocated to Sabah PKR.

“I have made sacrifices and some of my top leaders won't be contesting because of the bigger picture,” he said at a Sabah Pakatan gathering in Sandakan on Saturday (April 21).

Also present was Pakatan deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and other Sabah Pakatan leaders.

“I can assure you wherever DAP or PKR contest, Warisan will not contest.

“We will support you and we want you to do the same for us,” said five-term Semporna MP Mohd Shafie.

Shafie also referred to Umno asking Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) for the Matunggong state seat, seen as a traditional PBS seat, as a clear sign of "bullying".

He appealed to the people to support Warisan and its partners in their bid to form the next government.

He said even though Barisan has put the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in their manifesto, it was doubtful that they were serious and sincere in wanting to implement it fully.

If Sabahans want to see MA63 restored, they have to change the present government, he said.

“We will do what is necessary to ensure everything within the MA63 is given back to us,” Mohd Shafie added.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin in his speech said that the new powerful opposition force in Sabah is Warisan.

The Pagoh MP said Pakatan is ready to work with Warisan and put aside their differences in the interest of the political future of the country.

“This seat-sharing formula is now considered settled,” he said while assuring that Pakatan will honour the MA63.

Warisan recently concluded its seat negotiations with Sabah PKR and Sabah DAP.

Sabah PKR is contesting six parliament and nine state seats while Sabah DAP is getting three parliament and seven state seats.

However, Warisan has had no seat negotiations with Sabah Parti Amanah Negara, which is also a component party under Sabah Pakatan.

This means that out of 25 parliament and 60 state seats in Sabah, Warisan will go for 16 parliament seats and 44 state seats.
