PETALING JAYA: Subang Jaya state assemblyman Hannah Yeoh (pic) will not be defending her state seat and she welcomes her party's decision to field her in the Segambut parliamentary seat.

Yeoh told reporters on the sidelines of a DAP special party briefing here that she awaits the party's decision on who the new Subang Jaya candidate will be.

She added that she was excited for the opportunity to contest in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in a parliamentary seat.

"There is no safe seat in this general elections. I will have to put in a lot of effort to look into this new constituency and will give my best in this campaign," she said.

When asked whether she is happy to move on from her role since 2013 as the Speaker of Selangor State Assembly, Yeoh said she is ready for a new challenge.

"I have always maintained that seats are not our birthright and we cannot hold on to our positions forever," she said.

During the party briefing at the Petaling Jaya Civic Hall, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced that Yeoh will contest in Segambut, replacing current Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who has served the constituency for two terms.

Meanwhile, Lim will be fielded in Kepong, replacing eight-term Kepong MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw.
