PUTRAJAYA: People’s Progressive Party (MyPPP) president Tan Sri Dr M Kayveas has stood firm to contest in Cameron Highlands in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Cameron Highlands, traditionally an MIC seat, has become the centre of tussle between MIC and MyPPP when Kayveas expressed his intention to contest there.
Kayveas said he had been doing the ground work to serve the people in the constituency even though the seat is currently held by former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel.
"All this while, only MyPPP has been working to reach out to the people in Cameron Highlands. So, it is better for the party to contest in this constituency.
"I hold to BN principle that winnable candidates who are liked by the people have better chance to win. Nevertheless, the decision is up to BN leadership. We will just wait and stand prepared," he said when contacted by NSTP.
He was commenting on MyPPP preparations to face GE14 following the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the dissolution of Parliament, effective tomorrow (April 7).
He said MyPPP would finalise its seat allocation and candidates lists by next week.
"We hope we can contest in five state seats and one parliamentary seat. We don't mind if there is a change of seats between the other BN component parties because we still value the spirit of friendship in BN," he said.
In GE13, MyPPP lost the Kepong parliamentary seat as well as the Kota Laksamana (Malacca), Pasir Bedamar (Perak), Kota Alam Shah (Selangor) and Guchil (Kelantan) state seats
