KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — City police arrested 19 alleged members of the Gang 08 organised crime group in a special operation late last month.

The suspects, mostly gang enforcers and local leaders, are aged between 18 and 38.

City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the joint operation dubbed “Ops Capital KL 1/2018” by the Federal Criminal Investigations Department was conducted in Johor, Selangor, Pahang and Kuala Lumpur from March 28 until March 30.

“We are also hunting down 22 more suspects who have since been blacklisted as wanted individuals.

“The public are advised to be careful around these people and immediately alert the police in their whereabouts as they are known to be armed,” he said at the City Police Contingent Headquarters today.

He said police believed the suspects were still in the country while Interpol will provide assistance if any were able to flee the country.

A total of 45 senior officers and 119 police personnel were involved in the operation.

Mazlan said the gang was notorious for violent crimes such as murder and extortion, and were also linked to the fatal shooting of a restaurant owner in front of a school’s bus stop in Serdang on March 1 this year.

Police investigation revealed the group has been active for at least three years, primarily in the areas of Wangsa Maju but were known to venture further afield.

All of the suspects will be detained for 28 days under Section 4(5) of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 and investigated under Section 130V of the Penal Code for being a member of an organised criminal group.

“We do not want gangsterism to plague our city and the crackdown is aimed to create a Safe City environment for those living here,” he said.

Those with information may contact ASP Idil Fitting Tambi attached to the Gangsterism and Vice Department (D7) of Kuala Lumpur Police at 03-21460649.
