KUALA LUMPUR: A welfare centre caretaker was charged in the Ampang magistrate's court here with three counts of abetting her husband in molesting two girls, two years ago.
Khairulbariah Mian, 29, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to her before magistrate Haslinda A. Raof on Monday (Jan 29).
According to the charges, Khairulbariah was accused of abetting her husband Zahari Alwi, 56, by using criminal force with the intention to outrage the modesty of two girls aged 10 and 11.
The accused was charge with committing the offences in the living room of two welfare centres in Keramat here between December 2015 and 2016.
The charge under Section 109 of the Penal Code read together with Section 354 of the same code provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years or fine or whipping or any two of the punishments, upon conviction.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Raihanah Abd Razak offered bail at RM30,000 for all the charges.
However, the accused represented by counsel Illynadiah Mohd Yusof appealed for lower bail on grounds that Khairulbariah's father, who appeared as her guarantor, was a pensioner.
The court allowed the accused bail of RM18,000 with an additional condition that she was prohibited to intimidate the victims and fixed March 21 for mention.
It is learnt that the accused's husband, who is currently remanded over the incident, will be brought to court soon. - Bernama
