BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police are searching for a 30-year-old man who slapped a woman for not wearing 'tudung' at the Taman Perwira bus stop recently.

A six minute and twelve seconds video has been circulating on social media for the past week showing a man verbally abusing a factory worker before he assaulted the 24-year-old woman.

It was initially thought that the incident took place near a Bukit Jambul bus stop.

The victim came forward to lodge a report on the incident on Sunday, two weeks after the incident.

Initial investigation revealed that the man behaved aggressively as he was said to be upset by the fact that a Muslim woman had refused to wear a head scarf in public.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said police have identified the man but have yet to make an arrest.

"We tracked down his house but he is no longer staying there. His uncle said he has not been sane for the past 15 years after he met with an accident," he said in a statement today.

He added that the police will continue to search for the man. © New Straits Times
