PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Territories Ministry is going after the individual who allegedly hurled an office chair from an upper floor of the Seri Pantai PPR (People's Housing Project) flat in Pantai Dalam last Monday, which led to the death of a teenage boy.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said action needed to be taken as this was the first death case due to the throwing of things at PPR flats.
"We (the ministry) will take action on the individual who had hurled the chair no matter who that person is," he said after launching the "Raise the Federal Territory of Putrajaya Flag" campaign here today.
Tengku Adnan was commenting on the death of S. Sathiswaran, 15, at the scene due to severe head injuries after being struck by the chair in the 8.10pm incident.
He also said the ministry had ordered Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to install safety nets in strategic places at PPR flats in the federal capital to minimise the risk of accidents due to the residents' habit of hurling things out.
"It (may sound) ridiculous but we (the authorities) have to do it anyway … The throwing of things from the upper floors (at PPR flats) have frequently happened.
"From the information (we) received, even sardine cans and cupboards were thrown out from the upper floors," said Tengku Adnan.
The minister also said DBKL would organise a briefing session to the residents of over 80,000 PPR units in Kuala Lumpur following a number of problems arising at the flats.
"The briefing would give details on what the PPR residents can and cannot do," Tengku Adnan added.
