PETALING JAYA: A man was fined a maximum of RM2,000 in default of two months’ jail by the magistrate’s court on Wednesday for slapping a Nepalese security guard at an apartment building here.

Credit control officer Mohammed Hafiz Mohamed Fadzil, 31, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Sambar Lama, by slapping him on his left cheek, at the Mentari Court Apartment in PJS8 /9, Sungei Way Street at 9.20pm on Jan 21.

According to the facts of the case, the guard, who was on duty at the main entrance of the apartment, had directed the accused to register at the guardhouse before entering the apartment building – but the latter refused and instead, slapped him.

Mohammed Hafiz, who was unrepresented, mitigated for a minimum fine, telling the court that he had just started working and had a wife and three children to support.

However, deputy public prosecutor Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence as a lesson to the accused and on account of public security. -- Bernama © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
