MRSM deputy principal among three remanded over power abuse

SHAH ALAM: A Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) deputy principal is among three people remanded for seven days to assist investigation into power abuse.

The 48-year-old woman, who is with MRSM Kuala Kubu Baru together with her eldest son, aged 24, and a company owner, 40, were arrested Thursday evening (Jan 25) after they gave their statements at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office.

According to MACC sources, the woman is believed to have abused her position to endorse a company owned by her son's friend to supply student items worth RM79,000 through direct negotiation.

"The suspect was found to have granted the supply jobs to her son through a company owned by the latter's friend between 2016 and last year.

Magistrate P. Sarulatha granted the remand orders at about 11am at the Shah Alam court complex here Friday (Jan 26).

They will be remanded until Feb 1 and are being held at the Putrajaya MACC lockup.

The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for using office or position for gratification
