KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcycle policeman was injured when he was deliberately hit by a car whose driver had been directed to stop in Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh near here on Tuesday.
Four shots were fired by two policemen at the car during the incident.
It is understood that in the 11.05pm altercation, two police officers from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit had ordered a Honda Civic carrying two men to stop for a check.
However, the driver of the car acted aggressively and evasively and knocked down one of the policemen who was astride his motorcycle.
The fallen and injured policemen fired a shot at the retreating car, while his colleague pursued the Honda Civic to a house in Jalan Paya Jaras Hilir. There, he confronted the two men.
"When the policeman attempted to arrest the driver of the car in front of the house, the man reversed his vehicle and hit the policeman's motorcycle, prompting the latter to fire three shots," said Sungai Buloh District Police chief Supt S. Somu.
The driver managed to escape in the Honda Civic before abandoning it at Kampung Kubu Gajah. However, his accomplice, who had alighted from the car at the house, was arrested.
An initial background check found that the man has a criminal record of five drug-related offenses.
"The forensic team has conducted an investigation at the scene, and the hunt is still on for the suspect at large. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempted murder).
"The first policeman who was hit by the suspect's car suffered injuries to his face, legs and hands, while his colleague was unharmed" Somu added.
Members of the public who have any information regarding the case are urged to contact the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters at 03-61561222. -- BERNAMA
