Three hotel guests narrowly avoided death when the ceiling of their room and the rooftop of their hotel collapsed


Port Dickson hotel roof collapses; two guests injured

PORT DICKSON: Three hotel guests, including a 5-year-old boy, narrowly avoided death when the ceiling of their room and the rooftop of their hotel at Jalan Pantai here collapsed early this morning. 

The incident occurred at 4am when the three guests were sleeping in a room on the seventh floor of the hotel. The roof of the hotel suddenly gave way, falling onto the ceiling of their room which collapsed all around them. 

The two adults, who were rudely awoken, sustained light injuries, while the boy was unhurt in the incident. Port Dickson Fire and Rescue Department station head Razif Mohd Haris said they received an emergency call at 4.22am and eight personnel, a fire engine and a team from the Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) were dispatched to the location. "The victims were sent to the Port Dickson Hospital for treatment. 

"We are still investigating the cause of the incident. At the moment, we can't rule out bad weather as a contributing factor," he said. State Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis is expected to inspect the site this morning.
