KUALA LUMPUR: The Inspector-General of Police today refuted claims that police had anything to do with the supposed disappearance of a Bangladeshi man tied to the Islamic State (IS).
Golam Rabbani, one of three people deported from Malaysia, allegedly disappeared after he was sent back to Bangladesh several months ago.
Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Rabbani was arrested with the cooperation of Bangladeshi authorities in July.
“We worked together (with the Bangladesh authorities) and the deportation process was arranged upon receiving the court order.
"We liaised with the Immigration Department and the Bangladeshi embassy to deport them via a Malindo Air flight.
“When boarding, he was accompanied by officers and security officials from Bangladesh so there should be no issues that he had disappeared. His flight was also a direct flight,” he said.
Fuzi said accusations saying that the Malaysian police were hiding Rabbani were baseless.
News outlets had reported that Rabbani had, using a passenger's mobile phone, rang his wife minutes before the flight took off at 10pm.
Rabbani’s sister was also said to have spoken to him that night.
It was alleged that that was the last time he made contact with his family. He supposedly neither arrived at his Bogra home nor made any further contact with his wife.
It was reported that an official at the Bangladesh police headquarters said Rabbani was deported earlier this year from Malaysia, but could not say which agency picked up him from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport
