ALOR STAR: After capturing and hauling the leader of ‘Geng Pak Su’ and 23 of his followers to court for alleged involvement in organised crime, the Kedah police rounded up 22 more members of the illegal society on Sunday.

Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Al Athrash Wahid said the men, aged between 20 and 40-something, were nabbed in Kubang Pasu district. They are being held for 28 days under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

“The men (arrested yesterday) are being investigated for possible links to Geng Pak Su.

“Prior to this, we detained 21 (suspected members of the gang). Twenty of them were charged in court today,” Mior Farid told reporters when met at the Alor Star Court Complex here.

He said police are also hunting down members of four other underworld gangs which are involved in smuggling activities at the Bukit Kayu Hitam border.

On a related note, Mior Farid said police will beef up security at the Bukit Kayu Hitam border after the commencement of 20-hour border operations, slated to be implemented on Nov 1.

“We are not only focusing on Geng Pak Su, but also several other gangs involved in smuggling activities at the border,” he said.

Mior Farid issued a stern warning to those who collaborate with any organised crime gangs, as they will face similar action by the authorities. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
