PETALING JAYA: Datuk Samuri Juraimi, the founder of the popular Sate Kajang Hj Samuri, passed away at about 12.05am Saturday. He was 73.
Samuri began his satay business in 1992 when he opened a stall in Kajang which has since flourished into multiple premises.
Sate Kajang Hj Samuri is now well-known with 19 shops in major towns and strategic highway rest stops across Selangor.
Samuri was a Form One student when he first learned all about making satay from an immigrant from West Java.
Samuri continued to help him prepare and sell satay for several years until he had a full-time job. He eventually resigned from his government post to be involved in the satay business, but it was not until 1992 that he started on his own.
In 2014, Samuri was the recipient of The Star People’s Food Awards for the best satay in the Klang Valley.
