MUAR: A man and a woman were burnt to death when their car went up in flames after an accident near the Bakri industrial area here early Monday.  
Muar fire and rescue station operations officer Noralfatah Omar said an emergency call was received around 3.15am and firemen took about two hours to put out the fire and control the situation.  
He said a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s were killed in the incident while another woman survived.  
“The car was totally burnt that we could not identify the registration plate,” he said, adding that the victims’ identities are still being investigated.  
In another accident, a 71-year-old pedestrian was killed when a car that was heading towards Senggarang hit her at KM106.5 of the Jalan Johor Baru-Malacca road in Batu Pahat.  
Minah Muslim, from Kampung Parit Bakong, Batu Pahat, was walking along the road when the vehicle, driven by a 20 year-old woman, rammed into her at around 9.05pm Sunday.  
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Wahib Musa said the driver was travelling from Batu Pahat towards Senggarang when the incident took place.  
“The victim was said to be trying to cross the road and the driver could not avoid her in time," he said, adding that Minah died at the scene.
