Remand on Tan Sri in RM2mil bribe attempt extended further
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was given more time to investigate the Tan Sri who tried to bribe the Sultan of Johor with RM2mil.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Ab Rahman accepted the MACC's request to extend the remand on the 54-year-old Tan Sri, which ends Tuesday, for another three days.
The Klang businessman arrived at the court here at 9.30am, escorted by MACC officers, covering his face with the orange MACC lock-up t-shirt.
He had surrendered himself to the MACC at its headquarters here last Thursday and was arrested.
The following day, the court allowed the man to be remanded for five days to be investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act.
Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar recently wrote on his official Facebook page that he was offered RM2mil to suggest the person's name to the Chief Secretary to the Government for a "Tan Sri" title.
The sources said the individual himself was obsessed with titles.
It is understood that the MACC would investigate accusations that the individual was a “broker” for royal titles apart from probing the sources of his income.
