Subra unhappy with India tourist visa fee hike
PETALING JAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam (pix) has expressed his disappointment at the Indian Government's proposed visa fee increase.
"I have conveyed our unhappiness to the Indian High Commissioner on the visa fee increase proposed by the Indian government," he said in a Facebook post.
Dr Subramaniam, who is MIC president, said it is unfair that the Indian Government is making it more expensive for Malaysians to travel to India, particularly for religious reasons, when Malaysia is taking measures to make it easier for Indian nationals to visit Malaysia.
Indian visitors visiting Malaysia gets visa-free arrival if they are staying in the country for 15 days. On the other hand, the proposed visa fee for Malaysians visiting India has increased from RM180 to RM456.
In New Delhi, Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia T.S. Tirumurti confirmed that the present visa rate for six months will be maintained.
"The new rate is for one year with multiple entry. We will retain the existing rate for six months," he added.
