KOTA KINABALU: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will break the bank to settle payments amounting to RM9mil owed to the 24 M-League teams.
FAM president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said the measure which was taken to ensure the M-League teams clear their debts to players, will see 12 Super League team receiving RM500,000, while 12-Premier League teams will get RM250,000.
"We want the teams to settle the wages that they owe their players so we have to withdraw money from our fixed deposits... this shouldn't happen but we want to put an end to this," said Tunku Ismail in a press conference after chairing FAM's exco meeting here on Saturday.
"The M-League teams will be given two weeks once they have received their payment from FAM to settle their debts with their players. If they fail, action will be taken against them."
"The errant teams face docked points and relegation from the M-League if they fail to settle their dues. This is a final warning from us."
Last week, Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP), the M-League organisers, said that two Super League and three Premier League teams have yet to settle salaries as well as income tax and contributions to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) from last year.
