Datuk businessman and wife charged with hiring foreign maid without permit


 
KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman with a "Datuk" title and his wife have pleaded not guilty in a magistrate's court here to employing an Indonesian maid without a permit.
Datuk Mohd Badlishah Abdullah, 53, and Shapiza Abdul Aziz, 40, were jointly charged with employing Herodian Nauf, 37,  who does not have valid a work permit.
The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, at 7.30pm on March 7.
They were accused under Section 55B(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Prosecuting officer Insp Muhammad Faiz Abu Samah offered bail at RM10,000 each and urged the court to impound their passports.
Balbir Singh Dhillon, who acted for both accused, said his clients have never been arrested before and they have three school-going children.
He requested that bail be set at RM2,000 each.
Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri fixed bail at RM10,000 each and ordered the accused to surrender their passports.
The court set May 15 for mention.
