Kung Fu Yoga is top-earning Asian film in Malaysia
Jackie Chan has toppled Stephen Chow.
Kung Fu Yoga has taken over as the all-time No. 1 Asian/Chinese film in Malaysia, earning RM29.23mil at the box office, which was previously held by Stephen Chow’s 2016 release The Mermaid (earning a total of RM29.20mil, according to Box Office Mojo).
This also means that Kung Fu Yoga is the top earner among this year’s Chinese New Year releases.
The action comedy – co-starring Aarif Rahman, Lay, Disha Patani, Amyra Dastur and Sonu Sood – could earn even more as Kung Fu Yoga is still showing in the cinemas today. The movie sees Chan playing an archaeologist who teams up with an Indian professor to locate a lost artifact. Their search takes them around the world including the ice caves of Iceland, the desert of Abu Dhabi and, of course, to India.
Distributor GSC Movies, in a press statement, said it is offering a special Kung Fu Yoga “Buy 1 Free 1” promotion as a way to thank patrons. This means that buying a movie ticket to watch Kung Fu Yoga will get you another Kung Fu Yoga movie ticket for free.
