Eight policemen claim trial to bribery charges involving RM12,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight policemen have claimed trial in three different Sessions Courts here to charges of bribery involving RM12,100.

In the first court before judge Allaudeen Ismail, Asst Supt Mohamad Zafrul Zulkifli, 37, and L/Kpl Mohamad Hasirun Abu Hassan, 29, were charged with accepting RM2,000 and RM1,500 each as an inducement to release Myanmmar national Nang Cherry, who was suspected of having a fake UNHCR card.

Two other policemen, L/Kpl Mohd Saffuan Mat Salleh, 31, and L/Kpl Muhammad Huzzaini Esman, 29, are accused of soliciting RM1,500 from Nang Cherry at a parking lot behind a hotel in Jalan Pudu here on Jan 28 last year.

Allaudeen fixed bail at RM15,000 for ASP Mohamad Zafrul, while Kpl Mohamad Hasirun, Kpl Mohd Saffuan and Kpl Muhammad Huzzaini were given bail of RM10,000 each.

The judge also ordered the police officer to surrender his passport.

The court fixed April 12 for mention.

Counsel Hamidi Mohd Noh acted for ASP Mohamad Zafrul and Kpl Mohamad Hasirun, while Zainal Omar represented Kpl Mohd Saffuan and Kpl Muhammad Huzzaini.

In another Sessions Court here, Kpl Abd Rahim Yusak, 60, and Kons Mohd Hafis Hafizi Azhari were brought before judge Madihah Harullah.

They face three counts of soliciting, agreeing to accept and accepting a RM2,100 bribe from one Alif Faisal Amran to settle a traffic summons for driving with an expired road tax, as well as not to detaining one Mohd Hariz Zaifan Mohd Zanua, who was in the police's wanted list.

The two policemen are accused of committing the offence at three places here on Sept 28 and 30, 2013.

Madihah then set April 10 for mention.

Kpl Abd Rahim and Kons Mohd Hafis Hafizi were unrepresented.

In another court before Sessions judge Azura Alwi, Kpl Azuan Khalid, 49, and Kpl Zulazri Idris, 37, were accused of soliciting, agreeing to accept and accepting a RM5,000 bribe from one Mohd Shahrunizad Sahar as an inducement to release three Indonesians – Algufron, Rudiana and Murtadji – who did not have temporary working visit passes.

They offence were allegedly committed at three places here on Dec 15 and Dec 17, 2015.

Counsel Mohd Norazihan Adnan and Mohd Fahmi Mat Rodzi appeared for Kpl and Kpl Zulazri respectively.

Azura set RM10,000 bail for Kpl Azuan and RM5,000 bail for Kpl Zulazri pending mention on March 30.

ASP Mohamad Zafrul, Kpl Mohamad Hasirun, Kpl Mohd Saffuan and Kpl Muhammad Huzzaini are from the Dang Wangi district CID; Kpl Abd Rahim and Kpl Mohd Hafis are attached to the Sentul district police headquarters while Kpl Azuan and Kpl Zulazri are from the Wangsa Maju police headquarters.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Ahmad Akram Gharib, Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry and Abdul Rashid Sulaiman prosecuted the cases.
