KUALA LUMPUR: National basketball player Mohd Shadzwan Kamalrulzaman has become a YouTube sensation after a video clip of him rescuing a man by performing CPR went viral.
The 27-year-old was with his teammates at the Hong Kong International Airport, arriving to take part in the 21st Super Kung Sheong International Basketball Invitational Championship, which ends on Dec 18.
He said the incident occurred at 5pm yesterday as he and his teammates were about to board the team bus which would take them to their hotel.
"A woman suddenly screamed for help. I looked around and saw a man lying unconscious, his lips blue, frothing at the mouth," he told Harian Metro.
"I checked his pulse and found none. He also wasn't breathing. I decided to perform CPR on him until he eventually showed a response."
Shadzwan said he left the man in the hands of paramedics when he saw that the man was able to move his lips and eyes.
However, unknown to Shadzwan, the whole incident was captured on video by Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA) president Lua Choon Hann.
Lua then shared the video on Facebook.
To date, the 50-second clip has been viewed by 38,000 people and shared 190 times.
Shadzwan, who has been a national player for two years, said he didn't realise he was being videoed and did not expect the incident to go viral.
"I felt that what I did wasn't that special as I'm sure anyone else would have done the same to help the man.
"I am nevertheless happy at having helped in some way to save another person," he said.

“Saya tak sedar pun dirakam dan tak sangka menjadi viral. Bagi saya, tidak seberapa sangat bantuan itu kerana orang lain pun pasti melakukan perkara yang sama," katanya.
