Sarawak cops investigating FB post for defamation over Bill Kayong murder

KUCHING: Police are investigating a Facebook posting for defamation in relation to the arrest of Datuk Stephen Lee Chee Kiang for the murder of land activist Bill Kayong.
Sarawak CID chief SAC Datuk Dev Kumar (pic) said a report was lodged at Sekama police station here on Wednesday about the Facebook post by a person with the profile name Vernon Aji Kedit.
"The Facebook account holder alleged that Lee is not the real criminal. Instead he wrote that the government, YB and minister are the real thieves and murderers," SAC Dev Kumar said in a statement.
He said the Sarawak police were not amused by the posting which belittled the hard work done in tracking and bringing the suspect back to face justice.
"The account holder has also made false accusations against parties who are in no way connected to the murder," he added.
SAC Dev Kumar said police were in the process of identifying the account holder and bringing him in for questioning.The report is being investigated for defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
