Royal Selangor Club EGM ends after several members leave meeting
NEW STRAITS TIMES
KUALA LUMPUR: A Royal Selangor Club’s emergency general meeting (EGM) today came to an abrupt halt when two former presidents and officials walked out of the meeting following dispute over membership suspension issue.
It was learnt that club members also signed a petition to call for another EGM on grounds that the general committee did not allow them to express their views on alleged violation of the club’s constitution.
A suspended club member, R Nadeswaran said his suspension was ultra vires (beyond the powers) of the club’s constitution.
He said it would be up to the club members to decide in an Emergency General Meeting.
“I have requisitioned for the EGM, let them decide,” he said when contacted.
Nadeswaran, a veteran journalist with an English daily, declined to comment further over concerns that it might affect his case.
The club, which is situated next to Dataran Merdeka, is the nation’s first country club.
It was founded in 1884 by the British.
