PETALING JAYA: It was a perfect end for national men doubles shuttlers Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong in 2016.
On Sunday, V Shem-Wee Kiong justified their world No. 1 status by lifting the men's doubles title in style in the season-ender World Superseries Finals at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai.
They put up a solid show to beat Japan's energetic Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda of Japan 21-14, 21-19 in a 40-minute well-matched final.
The Olympics silver medallists V Shem-Wee Kiong received a whopping US$84,000 (RM376,000) for their feat.
They are the second Malaysian men's doubles to win at the Finals, ending an eight-year agonising wait following their seniors Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong's effort at the inaugural tournament in 2008.
It was also their third title this year, having won the Syed Modi International in India in January and the Denmark Open in October.
