KUALA TERENGGANU: Kijal assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who tabled a motion of no-confidence against the Mentri Besar, was no where to be seen at the state assembly sitting on Wednesday.
However, the mission to dethrone Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman is expected to be pursued by the 15 PAS and one PKR opposition assemblymen.
However, the mission to dethrone Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman is expected to be pursued by the 15 PAS and one PKR opposition assemblymen.
Ahmad, former mentri besar, moved the motion of no-confidence against Ahmad Razif on Tuesday. It was rejected by the Speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong, sparking an uproar in the House.
The Opposition members are expected to press on for the motion to be accepted by the Speaker.
PAS assemblymen were tight-lipped over what they planned to do when the sitting resumed on Wednesday.
Outside of the Dewan, some 300 people from Umno and the public gathered to show their support for Ahmad Razif.
PETALING JAYA: The motion of no-confidence against Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman by his Umno colleague on Tuesday shows just how precarious the balance of power is in the state.
With Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, a former mentri besar, pushing for the motion, it leaves the 32-seat assembly split in half – 16 (excluding Ahmad Said) for Barisan Nasional and 15 for the Opposition (14 PAS and one from PKR.)
Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong eventually rejected the motion when the sitting resumed after the lunch break.
The Umno-led government faced a similar dilemma in 2014 when Ahmad Said, who is Kijal assemblyman, was removed as mentri besar and replaced by Ahmad Razif.
Ahmad Said quit Umno hours after being replaced, and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib and Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud followed suit. All three later rejoined Umno.
Thus, a vote on the motion could just change the balance of power.
