SEPANG: The bodyguard of a businessman was seriously injured after masked gunmen attacked him near a row of restaurants at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Charter Field Town here.
It is learnt that the 22-year-old bodyguard was driving alone in a Mercedes-Benz when the four men opened fire at him sometime between 8.30pm and 9pm Friday.
The bodyguard was hit seven times in his right arm and shoulder.
He was sent to Hospital Putrajaya for treatment, and his condition has since stabilised.
According to witnesses at the scene, the suspects were travelling in a Nissan X-Trail, and managed to escape.
Some witnesses alleged that the suspects were armed with machine guns.
It is understood that the bodyguard was supposed to escort his employer - who runs a business selling prayer items in Skudai, Johor - on a five-day business trip to Indonesia. They were travelling in different vehicles.
Interviews with witnesses revealed that the victim was eating at one of the restaurants with two other people who said that the shooting only started after he had entered the Mercedes-Benz.
