KUALA LUMPUR: An American engineer was stabbed in a robbery attempt while walking along Jalan Raja Chulan.
In the 4pm incident on Wednesday, the 58-year-old-victim was stabbed in the back by a robber who had asked for cash.
However, the engineer, who works for an oil and gas company, fought back and a scuffle ensued.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainol Samah said the incident was spotted by two employees from the nearby Bukit Nenas Eko Rimba forestry centre who came to help.
"The robber fled with the two men hot on heels when a policeman also joined in the chase.
“They managed to apprehend the robber," he said at a press conference at Dang Wangi police headquarters Thursday.
ACP Zainol said the detained man, who is in his 30s, was from Sabah, and had a history of violent and drug related offences.
He was wanted for another stabbing in Jinjang, three days ago.
"The victim, who came to Malaysia for business on Sunday, is being treated at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and is in stable condition," ACP Zainol said.
