KUALA LUMPUR: With the help of China's anti-narcotics authorities, Malaysian police busted two drug syndicates, seized RM1mil in drugs and arrested three African men in raids in Negri Sembilan and Selangor.
Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff (pic) said the men - aged between 22 and 29 - were arrested between 11.05am on March 15 and 10pm on March 17.
In the first case, Comm Mohd Mokhtar said police detained two men - a Ghanaian and a Nigerian - at a parking lot at Putra Nilai in Negri Sembilan.
"We seized 3.4kg of drugs believed to be syabu. The drugs were in 40 packages.
"Checks found that the illicit items were stuffed in laptop adaptors and brought in by sea from China via a courier service," he said at a press conference on Monday.
In the second case, Comm Mohd Mokhtar said a 29-year-old Ghanaian was arrested in Taman Sentosa, Klang, on March 17.
Police seized 1.4kg of drugs believed to be syabu worth RM800,000.
"In this case, four toner cartridges were stuffed with 350gm of the drugs each. The items were also brought in by sea from China via a courier service.
"All in all, we seized 4.8kg worth of drugs with the help of China's National Narcotics Control Commission," he said.
Two national cars worth RM48,000 were also seized in the busts.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
