PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry has ordered all schools in Kedah and Perlis to close on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the heatwave.
"It will be decided on Wednesday if schools will remain closed due to the extremely hot weather," minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (pic) told reporters after being given the honorary PhD in Education by Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) here on Monday.
He said schools are to close if temperatures exceed 39°C for three consecutive days.
Mahdzir was given the honorary doctorate for his contributions in the field of education.
Malaysia is now experiencing hot and dry weather caused by the El Nino phenomenon and the Malaysian Meteorological Department has predicted that the situation will only end in May or June.
