PETALING JAYA: Civil servants who are negligent, incompetent or wasteful should be fired, says MCA publicity bureau chairman Datuk Chai Kim Sen.
Referring to incompetencies revealed in the Attorney-General’s report, Chai questioned the Government’s ability to keep its employees in check.
“Wrongdoings and incompetencies are exposed by the Auditor-General’s report year after year but we have not seen any improvement.
“Worse still, no civil servant has ever been held responsible,” he said in a statement.
Acknowledging that 339 civil servants were hauled up for questioning in 2012 and 2013, he urged the Government to enforce its exit policy to get rid of “bad apples”.
The Government, he added, should impose a higher standard in assessing staff before hiring them.
“Why should government departments employ sub-standard staff?
“Otherwise the civil servants will be a national burden.”
A stillborn Arowana breeding programme was among the inconsistencies found in the Auditor-General’s report released this week.
