Crutial for Muslims to choose Hotels with Halal Status for breaking of fast - Ramadan / Iftar Buka Puasa Buffets (2015 LIST)

MUSLIMS are preparing for Ramadan. During this period, there will be many food outlets, restaurants and hotels offering special Ramadan buffets. While many food premises genuinely offer buffet meals for Muslims, there will be a few irresponsible traders who will take advantage of the holy month to confuse Muslims by creating a false, misleading impression of the halal nature of the food.






It is crucial for premises offering the Ramadan buffet to observe all the rules and regulations concerning the permissibility of what is served, as all Muslims are required to only consume and use services which are confirmed halal and strictly restrain themselves from having things deemed not halal.






The definition of halal, according to the Trade Description Order (Usage of the Term “Halal”) 1975, is as follows: “Does not stem from or consists of any part of or item from animals that are forbidden to Muslims by Islamic law, or animals that have not been slaughtered according to Islamic law. “Does not contain any substance that is considered impure in Islamic law. Is not prepared, processed or manufactured using equipment or utensils that are not free from impurities as defined by Islamic law. “That, in the preparation, processing or storage stage, does not come in contact with or is stored near any kind of food that does not meet the requirements of the (aforementioned paragraphs) or any substances that are considered impure by Islamic law”.






The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry must constantly cooperate with the Islamic Religious Development Department (Jakim) and all state religious departments and councils to ensure that there is no abuse, and false or misleading use of the halal word. Muslims must report suspicious activities to the enforcement agencies.






Consumers can also search through the Malaysian Halal Directory at www.halal.gov.my to ensure the reliability and validity of the halal certificate or logo used by many premises in our country.
