Ramadan Buka Puasa Buffet 2015 @ Best Westen I-City

Hotel offers up a slice of kampung life for its buka puasa spread

A decadent dish, the Ayam Gajus is unlike the more well known Chinese version. Slightly more saucy, the dish has a generous amount of onions, and a touch of spiciness, not from dried chilli but from red chillies.

BEST Western i-City Hotel month-long Ramadan buffet is offering a selection of mouthwatering traditional eats from all over Malaysia.
The spread of 100 dishes will give diners a taste of the kampung in Shah Alam.
Starters range from the staple ulam-ulam kampung with fresh vegetables dipped in spicy sambal to rojak buah, a fruit salad with a spicy, sweet sauce.
Their signature Daging Gulai Kawah is a northern dish customarily made in a large pot or kawah, with beef, spices and thinly sliced bits of coconut combined with coconut milk and lemongrass for a creamy and aromatic dish.
A contrasting alternative to the richness of Gulai Kawah is their Ikan Pari Assam, which as its name suggests is a tangy, slightly spicy light sauce which brings outs the neutral mild tasting stingray.
The bird’s eye chilli in Lala Lemak Cili Padi gives the otherwise heavy dish a spicy acidic appeal which goes well with the lala’s chewy texture.
Though masak lemak dishes carry the same name, each has its own history with distinctive cooking methods used in different areas, much like the variations of assam pedas dishes, said Best Western sous chef Umi Akmawati Ayob.
“The puasa month is also a rest period for the stomach and during this time people cannot take dishes that are too strong in flavour.
“So I have made the dishes according to the dietary needs of people who are fasting by reducing the spiciness and heaviness of the food,” she said.
Much like the Chinese yam cake, sticky talam berlauk can be eaten as a light snack, or savoury end to the meal before hitting the wide array of desserts and kuih-muih from mini tarts to deliciously spongy kuih bahulu.
End with a traditional gula melaka fuelled kuih lompang or kuih lopes topped with freshly shredded coconut, and a colourful assortment of layer cakes that melt-in-the-mouth.
Large groups with bookings for 50 people and more will receive a complimentary whole lamb, while diners will be given complimentary tickets to visit i-City’s Trick Art Museum.
The buffet priced at RM78nett will be available until July 15, from 7pm to 11pm with three set menus that rotate daily at the View Cafe.
i-City will also play host to over 100 stalls for the Ramadan Bazaar organised by the Tourism and Culture Ministry from today to July 15 from 4pm onwards.
