Dr M adamant Najib should step down

PETALING JAYA: Sticking to his guns, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) insists that Datuk Seri Najib Razak should resign as Prime Minister.
In a blog post on chedet.cc on Monday, Dr Mahathir said he had no choice but to continue pushing for Najib's resignation due to the rising controversies surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), the purchase of a power plant with a much higher price and the investment and joint venture with Petro Saudi.
"Billions of Ringgit has gone missing and will not likely be returned. Directly or indirectly, Najib is responsible for this massive loss. Due to his irresponsible actions, Najib is no longer fit to be Prime Minister," he said.
Dr Mahathir said he was aware that the Opposition would leverage on his refusal to support Najib, adding that Barisan Nasional would be doomed if Najib remained.
He also said if the Umno and BN leadership were to change, it had to be done before the 14th general election.
Dr Mahathir said he felt the controversies surrounding 1MDB were serious from the first time he got wind of it.
"At that time, there was not much of information about it. I had no choice but to send Najib a letter stating my retraction of support towards him. Since then, I have receive a lot of information on 1MDB and I was shocked at the amount owed," said the longest-serving prime minister of Malaysia.
He added he also found that his retraction of support for Najib was ineffective as problems facing 1MDB escalated.
"1MDB also failed to service the RM42bil loan, money said to be invested in the Cayman Islands. Details on the investment and joint venture with Petro Saudi were also vague," he said.
