KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu football fans reacted by throwing stones at the car of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman on Saturday night after the team failed to enter the final of the FA Cup.

Despite winning the match 3-2 against Lions XII of Singapore at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak, Terengganu were edged out by the visitors 4-4 on the away goals rule.

Much of the fans' dissatisfaction arose after the decision of the referee, Mohd Amirul Izwan Yaacob, in not awarding Terengganu the fourth goal through Nordin Alias' header in the 90th minute.

Mohd Amirul ruled it offside. Had the goal stood Terengganu would have made it to the final.

After the match, the majority of the 15,000-odd fans went on to destroy stadium property, including a glass entrance door.

A bus belonging to the Lions XII was also damaged by the fans. There was also a report of an ambulance being burnt.

Federal Reserve Unit policemen were seen escorting the referee out of the stadium after the match.

Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Idris Abdul Rafar told reporters that investigations will be carried out into the incident. He declined to eleborate. - Bernama
