Ex-model denies Petaling Street stripping charge

KUALA LUMPUR: A former Sabah model, who was accused of stripping at Petaling Street, has maintained her not guilty plea.
A bail of RM7,000 was posted by Persana Avril Sollunda’s brother after her lawyer, Muhammad Nor Izzat Nordin, had requested for a lesser amount from the initial RM10,000 as it was a “small offence”.
Persana, 32, had made an earlier not guilty plea on April 28 to the charge under Section 294 of the Penal Code of committing an obscene act in public.
If found guilty, the former model and spa worker faces up to three months in jail or a fine or both.
Persana has been instructed to surrender her passport to the court and present herself once every two weeks to a nearby police station.
She is also barred from leaving Peninsular Malaysia until her next court date on May 29.
On April 23, Sollunda was allegedly caught on video stripping her clothes to avoid paying for a meal worth around RM18 in Petaling Street.
Witnesses said her companion, a Caucasian man, had gotten into a scuffle with the restaurant operator when she was not allowed to leave.
She had been detained on April 25 following a report of public indecency under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
