Prasarana wins the contract to operate and maintain the Arafah-Mina Metro system during the Hajj season

Transport commission lauds Prasarana’s success in winning Saudi contract

The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has commended Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) for winning the contract to operate and maintain the Arafah-Mina Metro system during the Hajj season, saying it is a significant recognition of a homegrown Malaysian company.
"This is line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's hope that more homegrown companies could be world-class operators in transportation.
"We hope that many more in other areas of transport, such as express buses and stage buses, would follow suit as these type of services are frequently offered in competitive bidding all over the world.
"Malaysia needs its operators to become world-class by offering better services," SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal told reporters after attending Prasarana's RapidKL Double-Decker bus soft launch in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said local companies must continue to develop and improve the homegrown industry not only in operation but also in maintenance and refurbishment as well as design of public vehicles.
Prasarana was recently awarded a three-year contract worth US$215.19 million (RM765 million) by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to operate and maintain the existing Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddasah-Makkah Metro route during the Hajj season.
Established in 1998 and operational since 2002, Prasarana is the asset owner and operator of the country’s two LRT networks and the KL Monorail, as well as the bus services of RapidKL, RapidPenang and RapidKuantan. – Bernama, May 16, 2015.
