KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has categorically denied any rift exists between him and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"You cannot separate me and my deputy," said the Umno president.
"To those who have been spreading rumours about a fallout, they will be disappointed," said Najib after chairing a three-hour long Umno supreme council meeting here Monday.
He said he had a "heart-to-heart" talk with Muhyiddin, who is Umno deputy president, over various issues to ensure that the party leadership remains strong and united.
"The constructive idea by the deputy (Muhyiddin) to have more heart-to-heart talks is necessary to ensure Umno leadership at the grassroots level remains strong.
Najib said he and Muhyiddin had received an assurance of support from all Umno supreme council members and leaders.
"They want us to remain united as a team to address challenges so we can strengthen Umno and Barisan Nasional's position among the people," said Najib.
He added that supreme council members should be allowed space to contribute ideas and provide positive feedback on any arising issues so it can be dealt with in the best way possible.
At the meeting, Najib also held an open discussion on the various controversial issues such as the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the controversial Tun Razak Exchange land purchase by Lembaga Tabung Haji.
