NIBONG TEBAL: Three employees of a money changer were robbed of RM600,000 after being waylaid by four robbers who used two cars to block them from leaving the shop.
The staff were about to get into their car at about 2.30pm yesterday in Taman Rebana near Tambun here when the robbers made a sudden appearance in two separate vehicles, blocking the victims’ car in front and at the back, said South Seberang Prai Deputy OCPD DSP Shariffuddin Abdullah.
“One of the robbers then opened the door of the employees’ car, shouted at them to look down and pointed a metal rod at one of the victim’s head.
“The robbers then took the bag full of cash and fled,” he said.
According to the employees, the RM600,000 were collections from the past three days, he said, adding that police would verify this in their probe.
One of the two Proton Waja cars was found about 30 minutes later. It had been abandoned about five kilometres away in Kampung Lima Kongsi.
The other car was found another kilometre away.
“In one of the cars, police discovered a metal rod believed to have been used for the robbery, besides mobile phones and gloves,” DSP Shariffuddin said.
