RTM Cameraman Claims Assault By Customs Officer
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- A Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) cameraman, Lutin Ahmad, today claimed he was assaulted by one of the Customs officers who were escorting their colleagues, who were charged with bribery, to the court.
The incident was alleged to have occurred about noon at the Jalan Duta Court Complex here while Lutin was making a video recording of the accused Customs officers leaving the court rooms after the court proceedings.
Lutin, 39, when contacted by Bernama, claimed he was kicked and threatened by the officer concerned.
He said the officer was preventing him from doing his job resulting in them pushing one another.
Although he was not seriously injured in the incident, Lutin said the aggressive action of the officer concerned was uncalled for and that he would lodge a police report on the incident.
Five senior officers of the Royal Malaysian Customs pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to 24 counts of accepting bribes of between RM500 and RM50,000 as monthly payment for them to not take action against the import of dutiable liquor.
They are Mohd Ariffin Zakaria, Hizam Abd Ghani, Sohaizan Othman, Azlee Mohamed Yusof and Ishak Abu.
