Kedah delegate causes a commotion at debate
BATU PAHAT: A Kedah PAS delegate caused a stir when he grabbed the microphone during the debate session to condemn an earlier speaker, a delegate from Kuala Lumpur, for using religion to chastise other leaders.
The sudden action by Ridzuan Abu Bakar, who was not listed as a speaker, resulted in a brief commotion.
A unit amal personnel stepped in and then ushered him away from the podium.
“I hope the permanent chairman makes a ruling whether it is allowed to use religion to criticise others. Even the non-Muslim reporters are asking if it is right to use religion to criticise others,” blurted Ridzwan before the microphone was taken away from him.
The Kuala Lumpur delegate Dr Azhari Ariffin used his allocated time of 12 minutes to offer prayers in which he condemned two PAS assemblymen who signed statutory declarations supporting Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to be the Selangor mentri besar.
He also criticised PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu for making statements contradictory to that of party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
He also hit out at PKR’s Kajang Move, which he described as a cartoon parody void of political maturity.
Later, parmanent chairman Datuk Abu Kassim Abdullah said the party leadership would respond to the issue during the winding-up stage today.
