Heidfeld cheats death in incredible crash with Prost's son

Former F1 star Nick Heidfeld was in an incredible crash with Nicolas Prost, son of F1 legend Alain Prost, as the brand new Formula E series got under way in Beijing.
The first ever race in the all-electric series came to a quite incredible conclusion on the final lap, with second-placed Heidfeld trying to go past race leader Prost at the very last corner of the race - and succeeding only in taking both cars out.
Prost's front axle was smashed, seeing him come to a swift halt - but for Heidfeld the horror was only just beginning, as he totally lost control of his vehicle on the street circuit that is routed through the city's old Olympic village.
Heidfeld's car flew down the track, got flipped into the air as it clipped a kerb - and span several times after clipping a wall before landing the wrong way up on the track.
It was a horrific accident - Alain Prost's reaction says it all,59-year-old, four-time F1 champion walking away from the bank of monitors in horror.
But amazingly, both drivers walked away unharmed - showing that the new all-electric cars are cutting edge in both safety as well as with their drivetrain.
Though he avoided any crash, the collision forced Prost's car to a halt - allowing Audi's Licas Di Grassi to come through and claim the first ever Formula E race victory.
